BTM - Business Transaction Management
Public standardization work in the relatively new area of BTM goes back to the OASIS Business Transaction Technical Committee inaugurated in January 2001. Since that time Choreology has played an instrumental role in shaping the industry’s thinking on the problems of achieving consistent coordination of application services and synchronization of business processes. Some technology problems have acquired a single, very well understood solution: reliable delivery of a message is an example. The developing category of BTM tackles a complex problem which the industry has puzzled over for at least two decades in an area where there have been no evident or uncontested answers. Despite the often irritating proliferation of variant specifications in this area, we believe that the solutions backed by IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Sun, BEA and other significant software vendors are technically similar. This similarity bodes well for the future of standardized distributed coordination protocols in achieving successful BTM. Our Cohesions product takes advantage of these technical similarities by providing a single uniform-architecture approach to building nested business transactions transparently using (if required) variant coordination protocols. In our standards work in this area Choreology seeks simplification and convergence and opposes politically-driven, needless variation. |
